Halloween is one of my favorite holidays because I love all the fun treats I get to make! I knew I needed some Oreo Halloween treats to round out all my tasty Halloween snacks!
Why This Recipe Works:
- Simple: Uses store-bought Oreos for a quick, fuss-free base.
- Customizable: Easily decorate with icing, sprinkles, and candy melts to match any Halloween theme.
- Crowd-Pleasing: Loved by kids and adults alike, making it a versatile treat for gatherings.
If you are whipping up these Halloween Oreo Cookies for a fun Halloween party, make sure to also make some tasty Spider Cookies, Witches' Fingers, and Halloween Donuts.
What You Need For This Recipe
Oreos: You can use any flavor that is your favorite! Double-stuffed, regular, the orange and black Halloween ones!
Candy Melts: Any Halloween colors you want to use! I used light green, dark green, white, black, orange, purple, and white to make a variety of monsters.
Shortening or Refined Coconut Oil: I use this when the candy melts don't melt as smoothly as I need them to.
Decorations: Candy Eyes, Sprinkles, Thin Oreos (for bat wings!), Black Frosting for face details.

Halloween Oreo Cookie Decorating Tips
- Tidy: Organize your decorating area. Get your candy melts melted for what you will be decorating first, and your sprinkles in their own bowls.
- Plan: Have a plan for which Halloween Oreos you will decorate first and what needs to have sprinkles added before the candy melts set, and what needs to be decorated after the candy melts have set.
- Melting Candy Melts: Place candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl with 1 tablespoon refined coconut oil or shortening. Microwave for 30 seconds at 50% power, stir, and repeat until melted. If it's not smooth enough, add in more coconut oil/shortening 1 teaspoon at a time until you get the consistency you want.
Frequently Asked Questions
I don't recommend it. Gel doesn't ever harden and can be really messy.
Allow all candy melts to set completely, then store in an air-tight container and store at room temperature.

Notes
- One 12-oz bag of candy melts will cover almost the entire container of Oreos. The exact amount will vary depending on how much coconut oil/shortening you use to thin the candy melts.
- You can make black frosting by adding black food gel to my dark chocolate frosting recipe, or buy some from the store (what I do for small projects like this). I like to use a piping bag with a small writing tip (#3 Tip) or a bag with the corner cut off to make the details.
- Nutrition info is an estimate and doesn't account for the candy melts and decorating items.
