    holding a slice of cantaloupe
Cantaloupe is on of my favorite fruits!

I love when melons start to show in abundance at the grocery stores! It means hot weather, swimming, bbqs, and cold drinks!

Cutting up cantaloupe is so easy youโ€™ll wonder why you didnโ€™t eat it more often! Whether its large slices or cubed, I explain all you need to know when cutting this tasty treat!

Cantaloupe is perfect served chilled alongside some hamburger sliders, cucumber avocado salad, and with homemade limeade!

    Cutting Cantaloupe Tips:

Use a sharp knife- but as always when using a knife be careful to not cut yourself!

A flat surface and cutting board make everything so much easier!

Squares or slices - both are great!

How do you know if a cantaloupe is ripe?

Where the stem was attached it should be clean and indented in. Avoid cantaloupes that have bruises and are mostly green.

    When are cantaloupes in season?

June through August is prime harvest time.

Will cantaloupes ripen more at home?

Yes, but they will not get sweeter. They start to break down as soon as they are harvested so no need to wait to eat them after you buy them!

    How to cut a cantaloupe?

    • Cut in half then scoop out the seeds and membrane from the center using a large spoon.
    • Cut each half into quarters then each quarter into slices.

How do you cut and skin a cantaloupe?

    • Cut cantaloupe into quarters.
    • Slide your knife carefully between the fruit and the rind- removing the rind. You can also cut the cantaloupe into slices then cut the rind off each one. Lastly, if you have a whole cantaloupe, you can cut the end off to create a flat stable surface, then go down the edge of the cantaloupe with the knife slicing off the rind, similar to cutting a pineapple.
    • Then enjoy as is or cut the fruit into squares.

    Save this for later!

We'll email this post to you, so you can come back to it later!

Don't worry, I promise not to spam you!

How to cut a cantaloupe into cubes?

    • Remove the rind then cut the fruit into squares.

Do you prefer cubes or slices?

    How long do cantaloupes last?

Depending on the type of cantaloupe anywhere from 2-4 weeks from picking. Once cut they should be eaten with 3-4 days.

    How to store cantaloupe?

If uncut, the melon can sit at room temperature on your counter. Once cut the cantaloupe needs to be stored in an air tight container and refrigerated.

I love how easy it is to cut cantaloupe!

What is the easiest way to cut a cantaloupe?

Slice in half, remove the seeds, then slice into quarters, then into slices and enjoy!

Do you wash cantaloupe before cutting?

Ideally it is best to wash your cantaloupes before cutting into them. Then any bacteria on the outside of the melon does get pushed into the inside when you cut it.

With left over cantaloupe you can freeze it and turn into smoothies or a slush like my watermelon drink, add it to a fruit salad, or just enjoy as is!

Let me know how you enjoy to eat your cantaloupe!
