Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Coarsely chop your pecans and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Toast the pecans in the preheated oven for 5 minutes. They should be fragrant but not burned. Once toasted, set aside. Decrease oven temperature to 325°F.

Spray a 9x13 pan with nonstick cooking spray with flour (like Baker's Joy) or grease with butter or PAM and coat with flour.
In a medium saucepan, over medium heat, combine corn syrup, brown sugar, eggs, butter, and vanilla. Stir continuously until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon, ~10 minutes. Stir in toasted pecans and cook for another 3-5 minutes. * Then set aside.

Mix the cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs.

Pour cake mix into prepared pan and bake for 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes, remove half-baked cake from oven, gently spread pecan pie filling over cake, and return to oven. Bake for an additional 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Remove from oven, allow to cool, then serve with a dollop of cream cheese frosting, Cool Whip, whipped cream, or ice cream!

*Vanilla Cake mix is a good alternative if you can’t find a butter pecan option.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
